Emily Irwin MSW, RSW
I am a registered social worker practicing psychotherapy. My background in public sector social work began in 2014 and over the years I have had the honor of working with people recovering from complex trauma, sexual violence, substance addictions and complex life challenges such as homelessness and incarceration.
I was motivated to start my private practice because of my personal experience as a survivor of therapy abuse and cult abuse. I hope to blend my professional background with my personal experience to provide other survivors with compassionate and ethical care.
Please note: I am at the stage in my practice where I am gathering professional connections to better support my future clients. I will begin taking clients in 2026. I am located in Ontario Canada. Once my practice is running I will be able to offer sessions online for Ontario residents.
If you have any questions, or need a referral for more immediate service please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Philosophy of Service

Freedom of Belief
I will never endeavor to tell my clients what to believe or to change their political or spiritual alignments.
Non-Judgement
You have the right to a counselling experience free of judgement and shame. Harsh criticism has no place in your healing.

Evidence-Based
I will keep my training up to date and use established, well-studied strategies in my practice.
Freedom of Choice
Ethical counselling is not forced or coercive in any way. You have the right to start and end your service however you wish. You choose what feedback is useful and whether or not to apply it to your life.

Ethical
I will always adhere to the laws that protect my clients' privacy, safety and dignity. I will never breach professional boundaries.
Transparent
You have the right to know the purpose of anything I ask you or advise you of in session. No question is unwelcome. There will be no secrecy surrounding the methods of my service.
